It simply means the US Government has assumed control over the Board and management of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and are expected to resume normal business operations immediately.

Real Estate Buyer & Seller Benefits.

What's the Benefit?

Buyers: Interest rates have dropped, so you can possibly get a lower interest rate and qualify for more house for the same payment. Now is the time to invest in real estate.

Sellers: This move will most likely infuse more buyers into the market; lower interest rates along with consumer confidence should help. Now may be a good time to consider selling your home.

Investors will also have more confidence and more likely to offer attractive loan mortgage programs.

Anything Else?

Not at this time. The government action is dedsigned to increase investor confidence, and stimulate banks to lend more money. Once the markets have a chance to absorb the news, lending standards may be relaxed.
